InkJobs ("InkJobs", "we", "us" or "our") connects Kenyan writers to paid academic and content-writing gigs and pays earnings out via M-Pesa. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use our website and app, why we collect it, and the choices you have. By registering for or using InkJobs, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information we collect

We collect information in the following ways:

• Account information you give us directly: name, email address, phone number, and password when you register.
• Identity & payout details: your M-Pesa registered phone number and, where required, national ID details for verification before payout.
• Work information: gigs claimed, submissions, writing samples, ratings, and messages exchanged with clients through the platform.
• Usage data: device type, browser, IP address, pages visited and actions taken on InkJobs, collected automatically via cookies and similar technology (see our Cookie Policy).
• Support communications: information you share when you contact our support team.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and maintain your InkJobs account;
• Match you with available writing gigs and process your submissions;
• Calculate and process M-Pesa payouts for completed work;
• Verify your identity and prevent fraud, plagiarism, and abuse of the platform;
• Send important notices about your account, gigs, or payments;
• Improve InkJobs, including analysing usage trends and troubleshooting issues;
• Comply with applicable Kenyan law, including tax and anti-money-laundering obligations.

4. M-Pesa & payment data

When you request a payout, InkJobs shares the minimum information necessary with Safaricom's M-Pesa platform to complete the transaction — typically your registered phone number and the payout amount. InkJobs does not store your M-Pesa PIN. M-Pesa is a registered trademark of Safaricom PLC and transactions made through M-Pesa are also subject to Safaricom's own terms and privacy practices.

5. Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share information with:

• Payment processors (including Safaricom M-Pesa) to complete payouts;
• Verified partner clients, limited to what is needed to deliver a specific writing gig (for example, your submitted work and a display name);
• Service providers who help us run InkJobs, such as hosting, analytics, and customer support tools, under confidentiality obligations;
• Regulators or law enforcement where required by Kenyan law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of InkJobs, our users, or the public.

6. Data retention

We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, accounting, dispute-resolution, and fraud-prevention obligations. You can request deletion of your account as described in Section 7.

7. Your rights

Subject to Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you;
• Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
• Request deletion of your account and associated data, subject to legal retention requirements;
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data;
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular reviews — to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No system is completely secure, so we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to keep your login details confidential.

9. Children's privacy

InkJobs is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected data from a minor, we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated "Last updated" date, and where changes are material, we will notify you by email or in-app notice.
